Ohio State University’s Advanced Materials Corridor (AMC) is a next-generation materials research and development center. OSU hired EEI in 2017 to provide LEED commissioning services for the project to verify that all systems operate as designed and to help the building achieve LEED Silver certification.
The AMC replaces two outdated labs operated by the College of Engineering. It will facilitate the continuous advancement of experiential learning and contribute to OSU’s leading role as a manufacturing and pharmaceutical research university. The Material Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering departments will share this facility. One of the objectives of the AMC projects is to promote collaboration between these departments to generate innovative advancements in each field.
A key challenge of this project is achieving critical laboratory system function while meeting OSU’s sustainability and LEED goals. Labs have stringent safety and regulatory requirements and strict operating parameters to produce results without posing risks to students and researchers. We applied our extensive lab commissioning experience to the various labs within this facility to verify that all systems operate safely and correctly.
We assigned personnel who are very familiar with working on OSU projects to this effort. This avoided an extensive onboarding process and let us get to work immediately upon award. Familiarity with the client’s expectations ensures that their objectives and standards remain at the forefront of our efforts and the project team’s activities.
