We’re excited to celebrate a major sustainability milestone, the U.S. Green Building Council has awarded LEED Silver certification to Southwire Company’s Bremen Industrial Plant, marking the company’s first manufacturing facility to achieve this distinction.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world’s most widely recognized green building rating system and a global benchmark for sustainability, environmental stewardship and occupant well-being. Developed by the USGBC, LEED certification recognizes projects that implement measurable strategies for energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials and improved indoor environmental quality.
Our team was proud to support the LEED certification process for this project and contribute to a facility designed with long-term sustainability and operational excellence in mind.
Building for Performance and Sustainability
During the design and construction phases, the project team collaborated closely with contractors and stakeholders to incorporate practical sustainability solutions throughout the facility, including:
- Individualized HVAC and lighting controls for office spaces
- Light-colored roofing materials to help reduce the urban heat island effect
- Rainwater capture systems
- Reduced light pollution throughout parking and exterior areas
- Enhanced energy and water efficiency strategies
- Sustainable material selection and improved indoor environmental quality
These efforts helped the Bremen Industrial Plant meet the rigorous standards required for LEED Silver certification.
