The SLC Redevelopment Program was a massive decade-long project that revolutionized traveler experience at Salt Lake City International Airport. As a major travel hub that had evolved to become the 25th busiest airport in North America and 85th busiest in the world by 2019, the old facility could no longer adequately support the increased traffic and security needs.
EEI provided commissioning (Cx) process management to prepare the general contractors for third-party commissioning across all phases. As the Cx Manager, EEI dedicated up to three full-time staff members to this project for 3 years. The new airport opened in September 2021, with EEI continuing to execute closeout procedures while supporting the Phase 2 project, which mirrors the main concourse footprint and is expected to continue construction through 2025.
EEI’s role was to facilitate a smooth Cx process by identifying and eliminating issues, thereby avoiding delays and rework. Key services included:
- Scheduling milestones
- Sequence of Operations coordination and review
- BAS graphics review
- System installation coordination, status review, readiness support
- Document control
- Cx support/oversight
- Pre-testing
- Cx Alloy maintenance and auditing
- Witnessing system start-up
The systems supported included Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, BAS Controls, Network and Special Systems. Over the 4-year project duration, EEI staff contributed over 10,000 hours to support this major airport redevelopment.
